Our goal was to create a level-based fun and challenging game. 

During the game, balloons are flying up from the bottom of the screen. The player must pop them by shooting a limited number of arrows coming from a ballista positioned on the side of the screen. The player is able to control both the direction and the velocity of the arrows. The objective of the game is to pop the required balloons of the level. 

We created an interactive tutorial at the start of the game for the onboarding of the players to make them familiar with both the operation of the ballista and the objectives. 

Touch and hold to control the "power" and drag to aim at a target balloon.

I really enjoyed the whole process of designing the ui and game assets. We wanted to have a minimal and eye catching art style at the same time, thus the hand drawn style with the black trembling outlines. In fact, in order to be totally consistent to my design I created a font specifically for this game.

All game elements had to be explicit

and self-explanatory.

The goal is to make players understand exactly what to do with them with no extra clues. Part of the process was to design and redesign most of the game elements until the final refinement.

 

We actually had the chance to show and play test our game at "Athens Games Festival '18" where we got a lot of useful feedback.
