Aesop's Fables
boutique hotel 2018
Architecture & Interior Design
A typical block of flats in Rethymnon, Crete turned into a boutique hotel inspired by Aesop's fables. A conceptual approach to the key elements of the fables for the creation of 13 themed rooms.

This project was assigned to me in April '18. I was asked to create a solid and playful concept that would make this hotel stand out.
While seeking inspiration in old time classic fairy tales, the idea of Aesop's fables popped up. Although his most popular ones are "the fox and the grapes" and "the hare and the tortoise", there are many more to look into.
The core idea of my concept design was the creation of an interior decoration and feeling that would refer to some of the fables.
Each guestroom is inspired
by a particular Aesop's fable.

Common areas are distinguished from private guestrooms, although they belong to the same context. Areas such as the reception, the lobby, the breakfast area, the staircase and the corridors refer to the natural environment where the fables occur.
A bottom-up parallelism of the hotel's shared spaces and nature.

Each room has its own name and trademark.
And each trademark is inspired by the most recognizable element of the fable that it refers to.
Emphasis on the details.

In order to have a neat and well organised space planning, I came up with 5 different types of guest-rooms. Each guest-room follows a certain type of space planning and contains specific assets. All of these assets share the same design logic.
P.S. "Aesop's fables boutique hotel" was a real project which will not proceed to construction due to client's business concerns.
